NYC Subways 2020

This project, entitled Fantasies in New York City Transit explores ideas and dreams. It provides a forum for idea makers to post their ideas, and a forum for those who find objection to these ideas to interact. This project does not propose to develop or build anything other than ideas. Some of the ideas posted here are mutually exclusive with other ideas.

What If... there were no subways, and the city was your blank canvas!
WTC Station... a plan for an LIRR / NJT service to lower manhattan.
Second Avenue Subway... An embelishment on the MTAs plan for the Second Avenue Subway. This includes an extension along Third Avenue in the Bronx.
Myrtle - Fifth Avenue Subway... a plan that examines building new trunk and river-crossing lines providing new direct service to Midtown and Downtown Manhattan from areas that are presently not served. This model demonstrates the use of a hub at Jamaica Center, and of direct express services that do not feed from the local trains.
23rd Street - Nostrand Avenue Subway... This plan examines the posibility of new lines and a new east-west Manhattan trunk. The idea is not to burden existing crossings or trunk lines, and to maintain better service through limiting lines to no more than three routes. The actual routings suggested here are offered as suggestions only, and will need to be revised with an eye towards service needs.
34th Street Mall and Light Rail System... Imagine a shopping mall along the entire length of 34th Street. Imagine it includes a free LRV system. And imagine that it connects to Park and Ride facilities on Long Island and in New Jersey.
Fixes... Making the Crooked Ways Straight! Tweeking some alignments and services.
MCTS... Nassau County Tansit System... What sort of a transit system could you design for Nassau County. Here is a unified system of Street Cars, LRV, Subway, Railroad, and even an airport!
Life after Amtrak!... What sort of National Rail Transportation System ought to evolve after the demise of Amtrak?
